Dear Parents,
After the sobriety of Monday’s immensely moving Remembrance Service, the sight of Bex Livermore walking the corridors with purpose wearing a radio mic means we move seamlessly to showbiz, with the Year 8 production of ‘Archie Dobson’s War’ this Thursday and Friday. As I write this, I have yet to see it but colleagues and boys have told me that it is, another, excellent and typically impressive and mature performance by Year 8 and our Performing Arts Team. The space outside the Spinney is, as usual, converted into a prop and costume area and extension of the theatre’s ‘wings’. To screen this area, we have placed some display boards, showcasing the boys’ war poetry at spaced intervals along the corridor. Entirely appropriate of course and sensible use of equipment, though the Year 3 boys delightedly announced “Mr Baker – look at our new maze that we have to pass through to get to our classrooms!” We are always looking to enhance the boys’ experiences here of course but this one was purely unintentional…I look forward to seeing all those going to the production this evening, as long as I can find my way to the Theatre through the ‘maze’…
After one of the longest ‘situations vacant’ in the school’s history, I am delighted to announce that we have finally appointed a new car park attendant, Mr Paul Cook, who will start next week. After 30 years service with the Metropolitan Police, including 3 years as part of the peacekeeping security detail in the Balkans, one could argue that Paul is more than a little over-qualified for the role but then again he has yet to experience The Beacon School North Car Park at pick up and drop off…Paul is a lovely man, the father of two boys educated locally and I have no doubt he will become a firm favourite within our community. Do say hello and welcome him to The Beacon next week; I am sure you will agree that he is an appointment worth waiting for.
Have a good weekend,
Nick Baker
