Bakers Beacon Blog Week 14 2025

Dear Parents,

Cold outside but warm in school this week.  Coats, scarves and gloves in abundance, and also a number of boys joining the unofficial ‘Beacon Bravery Club’ who resolutely continue to wear shorts, whatever the weather – I tap my Beacon bobble hat to you fellas.  Last night was particularly extreme but the warm-heartedness of some of the old parents and boys from my Wetherby Prep days made up for the cold, inviting me to join them for the Fulham vs Watford FA Cup game.  Always nice to be remembered from such a Fulham/Chelsea supporting school, though not a particularly memorable match as Watford continued their current indifferent form by losing 4-1.  Might be a while before Watford play Fulham again at this rate… these boys’ tales from university might evolve into their experiences of parenthood the next time this fixture arises…

At the first Assembly on Tuesday for Years 3-8, apart from reading out dozens of postcards (!) we went through a number of the events coming up this term.  Everything from sporting competitions to music concerts, year group productions to MasterCook, Viking Day to visits to the Ashmolean and Bletchley Park, Macbeth workshops and a presentation on the sinking of the Titanic…it’s all going on this term at The Beacon.  And it’s not just the boys; as I write, the BPS are meeting in Beech Barn to finalise plans for Quiz Night (7.2.25) and the Ball (28.6.25) and I was speaking with a parent just this week about ‘Dads’ Night Out’ that we are planning for early Summer Term…being a Beacon parent is just as sociable and enjoyable as being a Beacon boy it seems…

Have a good weekend,

Nick Baker
