Baker’s Beacon Blog Week 12 2025

The festive excitement is building, but it was very much a case of ‘post show blues’ for Year 8 boys on Monday after the high of their production at the weekend.  Some of them looked a little lost, and were offering to help clear the set just so they could eke out a little bit more of the thrill and energy associated with putting on such an incredible production; Year 4’s ‘Jungle Book’ next term will not be short of willing helpers I feel.  All schools do productions and performances but no-one puts on theatrical experiences on that scale..  And it’s not just Year 8 of course. The general mantra for school Nativities around this time of year is to keep it short and keep it simple – but not here.  Eight fully memorised songs, actions, plentiful parts and one solo (from a four year old!) later, ambition and performance possibilities hold no bounds at The Beacon it seems.  Well done to soloist Edward and to all the others who spoke and sang with such enthusiasm and diction – it was great to see the Archie Kaursland-Goughs, Tom Thextons and Emilio Tolljas (our Year 8 leads) of the future.

Talking of ambitious events, it’s the BPS Christmas Fair tomorrow and this year promises to be even more spectacular than the last. I will see you there with my usual ‘Christmas Photos’ and you will note that there is slightly different approach this year…I am sure the boys will have a lot of fun sifting through the photos to find themselves and their classmates in what is a very festive format – my sincere thanks to Kerry and Acacia in Marketing for doing a splendid job here. Due to Patrick being at University and Joseph studying for his A Level mocks next week (good boy – extra Christmas presents for you), I will be short of  my own elves so if any boy can spare a twenty minutes or so to help on my stall, there’s an early Christmas present of a House Point and a Wispa bar in it as payment – come one, come all.
