Sports Highlights Week 32 2025

IAPS National Finals Olympic Pool

On Saturday 7th June, two outstanding Beacon swimmers represented the school at the IAPS National Swimming Finals held at the iconic Olympic Pool in London. Competing among the very best swimmers from across the country, both boys displayed determination, skill, and exceptional sportsmanship.

Geraint J (Year 7) qualified for the 50m Butterfly with a seeding time of 38.91 seconds, placing him 18th out of the 20 fastest boys nationwide. On the day, Geraint rose to the occasion in spectacular fashion, delivering a massive personal best of 35.36 seconds. He finished 8th in his heat and 15th overall nationally—a remarkable achievement and a testament to his hard work and dedication in training.

Xander B (Year 8) returned to IAPS competition for a third consecutive year, already holding titles in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke from Years 6 and 7 respectively. This year, Xander took on the 50m Breaststroke, qualifying as the 4th seed with a personal best of 36.28 seconds. In his preliminary heat, he stormed to victory with a new PB of 34.67 seconds, securing his place in the final. Xander once again stepped up, producing a phenomenal swim and yet another PB of 34.21 seconds, earning him the silver medal. His record across three years—medaling in three different strokes—speaks volumes about his versatility, resilience, and elite swimming calibre.

Both boys should be immensely proud of their performances on such a prestigious stage. It has been a privilege to support them and witness their talent first-hand.

Well done, Geraint and Xander—The Beacon is incredibly proud of you!

U13C vs Merchant Taylors'

On Wednesday afternoon, the U13C’s took the trip to Merchant Taylors’ for our second hardball match of the season. The boys were put into bat first and throughout our innings, the loss of wickets kept our score from building, and we finished 56 all out. Benjy and Lithum both found the boundary with two lovely 4’s but some sloppy running between the wickets and giving away easy catches really stopped us from building a competitive score.

The boys bowled well and got a total of 4 wickets (one each for Laszlo, Theo, Benjy and ‘no run up’ Emilio) and we did initially put their batters under some pressure, but their middle order created a partnership, which got them home in the 12th over.

We move onto next week and our final match of the season…

Well done, boys.
