4 October 2024
Dear Parents,
Bright and sunny to end the week but autumn is well and truly upon us, and coats and hats have been the order of the day for many boys these past few days. We have a rule in our house that decrees ‘the heating can only go on at Half Term’. I prefer the more pragmatic ‘the heating can go on when it gets too cold in the house’ but Brigid, having grown up in Yorkshire, believes, in her words, me to be too ‘nesh’; never has coming into the warm, ambient temperature of The Beacon been more welcome!
Thank you for the overwhelming response to our Harvest appeal. This is a fantastic, collective achievement for us all and a personal triumph for Kishan Patel (8E) who has coordinated and encouraged the boys throughout the past two weeks, even raising awareness with his ‘Heinz Baked Beans’ costume at Tuesday drop off. Kishan’s narrative has been that we might be on to ‘break the record’ which is a very effective competitive button to press with our boys and as a result, we have effectively run out of crates to fill. Thank you all for your generosity, I know that Chiltern Food Bank will be thrilled to receive the Beacon Harvest later today.
Early start tomorrow morning as 53 Beacon boys, parents and staff take part in our annual Golf Tournament at Wycombe Heights. The Ryder Cup it won’t be, this will be better, with Best Pairing, Best Parent and Best Boy performance up for grabs as well as two ‘Nearest the Pin’ gongs to be awarded. Lots of competition therefore, and many of our boys trying the sport for the first time or in the very early stages of their golfing career. A life skill is golf, and hopefully many of our boys tomorrow will speak about their ‘first tournament’ for many years to come…
Have a good weekend,
Nick Baker
