Powerful Poetry

7 July 2020

In English Year 4 have been looking at poems around the topic of Diversity. This includes gender, race, class, disability, skin colour, age, height and many other qualities which make us appear different. The boys chose one of these areas and wrote a short poem; lots of them have been inspired by the recent media events and many have focused on what makes us the same. Others used empathy to write a poem from another’s perspective.

The teachers have been overwhelmed with the empathy shown by such young boys and would love for you to keep a lookout throughout the Summer for videos of our boys performing their poems.

To read some wonderful examples of these poems, please see the carousel and videos below:

Talk & Tours

Throughout August, our Headmaster, Will Phelps, and our Registrar, Jane Baines, are inviting future Beacon families to safely meet with him on our School site for a socially-distanced tour of our incredible school and an informal talk about your son and his education. Please click here for more details.

“The largest single sex Prep School in the UK, The Beacon still has an impressively inclusive, family feel to it, with a focus on pastoral care and turning out well-rounded boys.”

For a genuine insight into The Beacon, see our recent review from Muddy Stilettos.
