The Beacon Hosts Inter-Schools Maths Challenge

2 December 2019

We were delighted to host our eagerly-anticipated Jackie Gibson Annual Maths Challenge again this term. Twelve visiting schools joined their hosts in our Spinney Theatre, where teams of four spent the afternoon engaging in four problem-solving rounds against the clock, the tasks varying from countdown conundrums to Tarsia puzzles on shapes, sequences, brackets, indices, division, multiplication, addition and subtraction.

The Beacon had two teams consisting of eight boys from Year 6 and they all worked extremely hard and developed their teamwork skills. It was wonderful to see every pupil from every school entering in to the spirit of the event with enthusiasm and excitement.

We’re definitely looking forward to running the event again next year and inspiring another group of young mathematicians.

Our wonderful School Counsellor, Caroline Yolland, has shared her advice on how to prepare your children emotionally for a return to school sites in The Telegraph today. We are delighted to share this incredible support with other families. https://bit.ly/2ZCsTJb
