Modern Languages Conference at The Beacon

11 October 2019

On 9 October 2019, Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) teachers from over 40 schools gathered at The Beacon for our first-ever MFL conference on ‘Promoting Excellence in MFL Teaching’. As the world continues to become increasingly connected through advancing technologies, it has become essential for our children to learn to confidently speak other languages if they wish to maintain a competitive edge in an increasingly global careers’ market.

The purpose of the conference was to develop closer links with MFL teachers across the region. It also provided excellent MFL training and the sharing of expertise, thanks to some fantastic speakers including the Heads of MFL at Oundle School and Wellington College. We were delighted to welcome the UK co-ordinator for DELF-DALF exams at the Institut Français in South Kensington who talked about DELF exams, which we will be introducing at The Beacon later this year.

The conference was held in conjunction with ISMLA (Independent Schools’ Modern Languages Association) and we are hoping that it will become an annual Autumn Term event at the School.

Talk & Tours

Throughout August, our Headmaster, Will Phelps, and our Registrar, Jane Baines, are inviting future Beacon families to safely meet with him on our School site for a socially-distanced tour of our incredible school and an informal talk about your son and his education. “The largest single sex Prep School in the UK, The Beacon still has an impressively inclusive, family feel to it, with a focus on pastoral care and turning out well-rounded boys.”
