IAPS Tennis Championships Back to Archive
19th September 2017

The annual IAPS tennis championships at Millfield School took place in July and again The Beacon boys excelled themselves.
Playing for the fourth consecutive year both Thomas Creighton and Jack Shawyer excelled themselves losing narrowly in the semi-finals of the U13 doubles after conceding two match points. Thomas lost to the No 1 seed in the Singles quarter final after a close fought match and Jack lost to the same player in the semis. Again in the U13 event Alastair Begg, Oliver Okhuijsen and Joshua Hooles all reached the knockout stages playing some fine tennis. Joshua made the round of 32 with Alastair and Oliver reaching the last 16.

In the U11 competition Fraser Creighton played some very tenacious tennis narrowly missing out on the quarter final after securing a match point. Harry Shawyer also reached the last 16, but came up against a very strong opponent. Great credit to both boys for their efforts. Robbie Skea playing in his first competitive tournament made the knockout stages of the U11 event surpassing all expectations. Ollie Pemberton also made the knockout phase and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Tom Chapman won the IAPS U11 event playing some sublime tennis against an excellent opponent. In total Tom won 8 matches against some highly ranked National players.

Thomas, Jack, Oliver and Tom have all been an absolute credit to tennis at The Beacon over the past five years achieving an incredibly high standard of play, and we wish them success with their tennis in the future. A fantastic few days of competition, we are blessed at The Beacon to have such strength in depth. Well done to all the boys!
