Snow Routine

  1. The school will be open if at all possible.
  2. A register of staff will be formed in advance: those expected to be in school and those expected to work from home.  This will be based on personal circumstances – travel distance, family commitments, etc.  This register will form the basis of the register used on a snow day in the case of emergency evacuation.
  3. The school day will run from 0900 - 1530, and boys may arrive from 0830.  Parents should only collect boys earlier than this under exceptional conditions.
  4. Where possible we request that boys walk to school with parents in order to reduce vehicle congestion on site.
  5. We will provide the best educational programme possible.  However
    1. We will combine classes where necessary
    2. We will not run a normal teaching timetable.  A programme will be drawn up appropriate to the staff available and the boys present.
    3. We will ensure that the needs of boys are met as well as possible (e.g. focussed practice and revision for exam candidates)
  6. Notification of a Snow Day will be made to all staff and parents no later than 0700 on the day in question. This will be done by text and by updating the web site.
  7. Boys should wear uniform but may wear non-uniform footwear, coats, hats, scarves and gloves.
  8. Parents will not be expected to ring or email the school if boys are unable to attend.  We will assume absence until boys are registered present.
  9. The school will provide a cooked lunch as normal unless parents are notified to the contrary no later than 0700 on the day in question.  This will only happen if supplies have not been delivered or if catering staff are unable to get to work.
  10. Where feasible, the school will run an “on-line” classroom for those boys not able to attend school.  This will be managed via email, through the website or (possibly) through a Virtual Learning Environment.  Arrangements will be overseen by the Director of Studies.
  11. On arrival in school boys will gather in the following places: At the end of the day the same venue will be used for de registration and collections by parents.
    1. Reception and Nursery: In their classrooms
    2. Y1/2: LS Assembly Room
    3. Y3/4: Strong Corridor
    4. Y5/6: First Floor, Osborne
    5. Y7/8: Drama Studio
