The Beacon undertakes various charitable fundraising activities, on behalf of organisations at home and abroad, via pupil sponsorship events and collections following school productions at Christmas and other times of the year.

Haiti Earthquake Appeal - Beacon boys have been donating their pocket money to help victims of the Haiti earthquake.  Middle School boys each took home a tube of Smarties in which to collect coins.  Boys in Years 7 and 8 donated up to 50% of their pocket money and boys in Year 6 undertook fundraising in support of WaterAid.  So far just over £1700 has been raised.

Movember - At The Beacon, the upper lips of quite a few male staff have been getting rather hairy recently! The reason is that we have been supporting ‘Movember’ – an annual, month long celebration of the moustache, highlighting men’s health issues, and specifically supporting research into prostate cancer – one of the biggest threats to men’s health. The Headmaster, Paul Brewster, already a moustache wearer for some 30 years, decided to get involved by agreeing to publicly shave it off…. But only if donations reached a total of £1,000! All The Beacon staff and parents have been donating in support of this great cause and a grand total of £1051 has been raised.  The facts:  one man dies every hour of prostate cancer in the UK, more than 35,000 men will be diagnosed this year – prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK.  See link on the right for photos.

Children in Need, Friday 20 November - 'Hilarious Hair' - To support this national charity the boys were allowed to try their hand at becoming the next Vidal Sassoon! They wore wigs or created masterpieces with their own hair - see link on the right for photos.  In total, we raised just over £850.

Lower School Sponsorship Day 2009 - On Friday 12 June the Lower School boys held their sponsorship day in aid of the NSPCC.  In the morning, the boys came to school in their sports kit ready to take part in Will's Worthy Workout - a minute each on circuit training activities - kicking at goal, target practice with balls and bean bags in a bucket and a hoop hopping exercise.  The boys in Years 1 and 2 had a quieter afternoon doing Will's Whizzy Words - a sponsored spelling event.  The cake and refreshment stalls were a roaring success and altogether the total amount raised was a fantastic £3,612.23.

Comic Relief - On Friday 13 March, the boys (and some staff!) came to school in their pyjamas and donned red noses to raise money for Comic Relief.  We raised a total amount of £1,586 doing something funny for money.
