There are two main exit points at The Beacon. The most obvious is at the end of Year 8 when, aged 13, our boys leave us to go to the local independent day schools, Berkhamsted School, Merchant Taylors’ and Claires Court, or to one of the many boarding school options. Last year we had boys go to Eton, Winchester, Rugby, Bradfield, Oundle, St Edward’s, Shiplake, Radley and Abingdon, amongst others.
Last year one of our boys received a top academic scholarship to Winchester. Boys also received all-rounder, art, drama and music scholarships to Bradfield, Berkhamsted, Oundle, Shiplake, Eton and Merchant Taylors’. This is a familiar pattern year on year.
Boys also leave us at the end of Year 6 to take up places at the local grammar schools, mainly Dr Challoner’s, Amersham; The Royal Grammar, High Wycombe; Chesham High and Aylesbury Grammar. In fact, for the last two years, The Beacon has been the largest feeder school into Dr Challoner’s.
In 2008/9 we had an 11+ pass rate of 75%.
We are always proud of all our boys and look forward to hearing their tales of senior school when they return to The Beacon to reminisce!
