Years 4, 5 and 6

Places do become available in all year groups from time to time and if you are interested in your son joining in Year 4, 5 or 6 please check the availability with the Admissions Office on 01494 432764 or email: admissions@beaconschool.co.uk.

Prospective pupils who are registered are invited to attend either individual or with a small group of other prospective pupils an Assessment Day and these take place throughout the academic year.

Years 4, 5 and 6 Entry

  • Visiting the school: either at an Open Morning or arrange an individual meeting with William Phelps and tour of the school.  Please fill out the Arrange a Visit form.
  • Registering your son: either request or download the Registration Form, complete and sign (two signatures normally required) and return together with a non-refundable cheque for £100 made payable to The Beacon School.   Registered boys are placed on a waiting list in order of date of registration.
  • Assessment: invitations to attend an Assessment Day are sent out to parents of boys who are registered for Years 4, 5 and 6.  The boys are assessed through Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning Tests, reports from current schools and observations made during the day as they attend lessons and informal interviews.  We hope the boys enjoy their day spent at The Beacon, seeing the facilities and meeting the teachers and current pupils.
  • Offer of a place: offer letters are sent out to parents of boys who have been successful following the Assessment Day.  Parents are given a date by which to return the Acceptance Form and deposit cheque (£750) to secure a place for their son in Year 4, 5 or 6.  A letter is sent from the Admissions Office acknowledging receipt of the Acceptance Form and cheque.
  • Joining: boys are invited to attend a moving up day in the Summer Term before joining and packs with handbooks are sent out to parents at a similar time, or a few weeks before starting for boys joining mid academic year. All boys from Year 3 and above who are joining in September are invited to come to an induction afternoon the day before the start of the Autumn Term to meet their Tutors in their rooms, locate their lockers and familiarise themselves with the school.
  • Uniform: both the School Shop and the second hand uniform shop are open during the term-time and on a number of days during the summer holidays.  Appointments can be made with the Shop Manager through the Registrar for boys joining mid academic year. Click for more information about Uniform.
