Pupils have an excellent understanding of those who are less fortunate than themselves and engage actively and generously in charity fundraising, often using their own initiative.

Charitable Activities

The Beacon supports the local community in a variety of ways, for example through hosting events at the school and participating in local fundraising initiatives.

You can read case studies of our charitable initiatives on our Schools Together profile page here.

The Beacon also undertakes a range of charitable fundraising activities, on behalf of organisations at home and abroad.  Each year, the School Council organises various fundraising initiatives in support of charities that the boys themselves have selected.  Last academic year, 2016-17, members of The Beacon community raised over £14,000 for a range of local and national charities.

  • In June 2017, Year 8 held a Disco, raising £1200 for the PACE Centre in Aylesbury, supporting children with disabilities in education.
  • In July 2017, the school supported Sal's Shoes, donating over 500 pairs of shoes and over £400 in donations to ensure children in developing countries could have a pair of shoes on their feet.
  • Each year the School Council runs a £5 challenge to raise money for the school's chosen charities. This also provides an opportunity for the boys to practise their entrepreneurial skills.

Academic year 2017-18 is off to a great start:

  • In Autumn 2017 to mark Harvest Festival, the boys brought in food and other practical items for donation to the Chiltern Foodbank.
  • In September 2017 Beacon staff held a Macmillan coffee morning, at which more than £500 was raised.

In recent years, we have supported a number of other charities, including:

  • Children in Need (£776 raised in 2016)
  • The Poppy Appeal (£500 raised in 2015)
  • WaterAid
  • Hearing Dogs for the Deaf
  • Duncan Dyason's Street Children project in Guatemala
  • WheelPower
  • The Chiltern Air Ambulance
  • PACE
  • Movember
